Central Services Technician I -NBMC (Per Diem, Evening)

About the role

Average work schedule is 40 hours per week. This position is full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Follows approved infection control, quality assurance and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Cleans, decontaminates, disinfects and/or sterilizes surgical instruments, trays and packs, reusable medical devices and patient care equipment for Surgery, medical departments and clinics.
  • Operates equipment necessary for reprocessing instrumentation and equipment.
  • Completes Quality Assurance documentation for each sterilization load.
  • Validates & maintains event-related protocols; disinfection and/or sterilization load parameters & records.
  • Applies a proficient skill level in all CS assignments.
  • Erects orthopedic traction as instructed.
  • Complies with facility safety policies & procedures, including those for blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Takes prompt corrective actions when hazard identified (reporting or removing as appropriate).
  • Meets or exceeds Organizational standards for Joint Commission, Patient Safety and the Department of Health.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formalized training program in Central Service or Surgical technology preferred.
  • Must hold current CS/SPD Certification with either Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CSPD) or The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM).
  • Upon completing 18 months of employment as a CS Tech I, must obtain Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor certification through CSPD.
  • Minimum two (2) years of hospital, Central Service or Operating Room with computer data entry experience, or the completion of a formalized training program in Central Service or Surgical Technology preferred.

Compensation Structure

  • Staff-level positions use a step-based system (Steps 1–5) based on years of directly related experience, with Step 5 representing 20 or more years of experience in the role.
  • Manager level and above positions are paid a fixed annual base salary and are eligible for a variable incentive compensation plan.
  • Physician compensation is structured based on specialty and role requirements.
