Responsibilities

  • Inspect, disinfect, assemble, process, and distribute patient care instruments, equipment, and supplies in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards.
  • Act as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the healthcare team related to processing equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Store, rotate, and ensure all instruments and supplies are correctly labeled.

Instrument Processing & Sterilization

  • Clean and inspect soiled instruments using proper PPE.
  • Test equipment with tools like insulation and leak testers to ensure sterilization.
  • Assemble instruments per established standards and IFUs (Instructions for Use).

Quality & Accuracy

  • Strive for zero defects through thorough inspections.
  • Maintain a low error rate and high productivity.

Team Support & Communication

  • Serve as a role model and resource for peers.
  • Respond to phone requests and departmental issues professionally.

Workflow & Prioritization

  • Prioritize processing based on surgical schedules and physician needs.
  • Handle vendor trays and complex instrumentation efficiently.

Technical Proficiency

  • Differentiate instrument functionality and specialties.
  • Monitor sterilization equipment and submit repair requests as needed.
  • Expertly assemble high-complexity trays like implants and ambulatory kits.

Customer Service

  • Ensure timely, professional handling of all customer area requests.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required).
  • Successful completion of a sterile processing program (internal or external) (Required).
  • Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Tech (CSPDT) – CBSPD within 1 year (Required).
  • Or Registered Central Services Technician, Certified (CRCST) – IAHCSMM within 1 year (Required).

Schedule

  • Full-time, day shift.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Hours: 11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  • Days worked: Monday to Friday.
  • Weekend frequency: Variable weekends.

Primary Location: Grosse Pointe Hospital, 468 Cadieux Rd, Grosse Pointe, Sterile Processing Department.
