About the role
Under supervision cleans, sterilizes, and assembles patient care equipment, supplies and instruments according to prescribed procedures. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Attends report to receive assignment and directives from Manager/Supervisor
- Wipes down department and sets-up work tables for assembling instrument trays
- Cleans decontamination room, wipes down all equipment, and cleans processing room, wiping down all horizontal surfaces
- Decontaminates all dirty instrumentation and equipment
- Checks label guns for current rate
- Checks steam traps in steam sterilizer
- Runs Bowie Dick test in steam sterilizers, logs results in sterilizers and logs results in biological record book and CPD
- Runs attest with first load of the day in steam sterilizers and logs results in biological record book and CPD
- Ensures all items that were processed have been transported to the appropriate area
- Assembles instrument trays in processing room
- Uses count sheet from CPD when assembling trays
- Reports missing instruments (that cannot be found) to the CPD Manager
- Wraps instrument trays
- Sterilizes supplies/instrument trays
- Fills floor requisitions in a timely manner
- Reports broken/damaged equipment to Biomed for repair or replacement
- Submits patient charges as needed
- Opens boxes in the break out area
- Checks supplies and orders from Storeroom for all shifts
Qualifications
- High School plus specialized training (minimum 6 months to 2 years)
- 1-3 years of experience
- Certified Registered Central Supply Tech
- Certified Board Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Surgical Technologist
- Good communication skills
- Time management
- Familiarity with schedule to accommodate staffing needs
Physical demands
- Ability to transport equipment
- Ability to respond appropriately to unit's needs regarding equipment and supplies processed in CPD
- Work environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions
- Routinely comes in contact with potentially infectious patients and specimens
- Ability to carry items weighing 25-50 pounds
- Standing, walking, and pushing most of the designated shift
Location: Oak Park, Illinois
Schedule: Shift 1, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Work Type: Restricted Part Time (Total FTE less than 0.5)
Pay Range: $10.00 - $500.00 per hour
