Central Processing Technician

Responsibilities

  • Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment.
  • Trains to perform these duties independently and without close supervision.
  • Disassemble, clean, decontaminate, and disinfect surgical instruments.
  • Assemble, protect, wrap, contain, peel pack and label surgical instruments.
  • Sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Clean, troubleshoot and correctly use CP equipment.
  • Perform and record biological and chemical sterilization tests.
  • Issue and receive durable, moveable clinical equipment.
  • Issue sterile supplies to using areas.
  • Perform inventory duties as required.
  • Verify that all sterilization processes have been completed and met parameters before making equipment available for use.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • State Licensure or certification as a Sterilization Technician, as required by state regulations or contract specifications
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in a fast-paced OR

Work Environment

  • Standing for prolonged periods, frequent walking, reaching (overhead, repetition).
  • Proficient communication, both auditory and verbal, with colleagues, vendors, and surgeons.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Able to lift/push/pull > 50lbs.
