Full-time, permanent classified civil-service position represented by Council 94/Local 528 (Service/Maintenance).
About the Role
Perform simple clerical and manual tasks in a central mail room, handling and delivering mail, records, and supplies to various state agencies.
Responsibilities
- Pick up outgoing mail at various state agencies.
- Sort interdepartmental mail by address for delivery.
- Sort outgoing mail by sender and prepare for postage.
- Weigh outgoing mail and affix proper postage using a meter mailing machine.
- Record postage meter readings daily to charge the proper agency.
- Pack mail for pickup by the United States Post Office.
- Deliver interdepartmental mail to the correct agency.
- Pick up records at the state records center, sign for them, and deliver to the proper destination.
- Pick up supplies and stationery at the State Stationery and Supply Store and deliver to requesting agencies.
Requirements
- Familiarity with United States Postal Regulations and rates for computing postage.
- Ability to apply postal regulations and perform accurate, timely arithmetical computations for postage.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to understand and follow simple written and oral instructions.
- Physical ability to lift and carry bundles of mail and supplies weighing over fifty pounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience performing simple clerical and manual tasks.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Rhode Island Registry of Motor Vehicles.
- Physician’s certification of physical qualification to perform assigned duties.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hand scanners, package handling and delivery, bulk mail, metering, or other mail room duties.
Schedule
7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday
