Central Illinois Outreach Coordinator
About the role
The Outreach Coordinator will join the Outreach Department and report to Faith in Place’s Illinois Outreach Director. They will be responsible for outreach only in their geographic region. As a Community Organizer, the Outreach Coordinator will educate communities in their region about environmental crises and solutions, listen to community needs, and relay them to our policy team and program staff. They will build power for advocacy campaigns that advance environmental and racial justice, connect communities with one another for collaboration, support, and shared learning, and actively participate and lead in environmental coalitions.
Responsibilities
- Cultivate relationships with Houses of Worship, community leaders, and partner organizations.
- Support advocacy campaigns that advance renewable energy projects by helping partners navigate siting and permitting barriers in their communities.
- Support local projects being led in your region.
- Organize and host educational events and workshops aligned with the three program areas.
- Mobilize communities in your region to participate in advocacy campaigns.
- Relay community concerns and insights to internal policy and program teams.
- Track and report on outreach activities, events, expenses, and time consistently.
- Participation in staff meetings and team retreats.
Qualifications
- Location: Must be currently located in or originally from locations listed above.
- Passion for climate action, environmental justice, and racial/economic justice.
- Strong verbal communication skills (large groups, small-group facilitation, and 1:1).
- Ability to work respectfully across diverse backgrounds, faiths/spiritualities, and political beliefs.
- Storytelling and writing skills to make complex issues accessible and motivating.
- Demonstrated cultural humility and ability to work across race, faith, class, and political identity.
- Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines and goals.
- Public speaking/facilitation skills and ability to lead workshops or trainings.
- Comfort with standard business software/apps and willingness to learn and be skilled in using Microsoft Teams, Monday.com, and BambooHR.
- Commitment to motivating individuals and communities to take action.
- 3-5 years relevant community organizing experience.
- Reliable vehicle for regular local travel (mileage reimbursement provided).
- Access to a personal cell phone.
Preferred Experience
- Leading and collaborating with volunteers;
- Supervisory experience a plus.
- Experience working in or with faith-based communities.
- Familiarity with Illinois environmental policy or coalitions.
- Advocacy or campaign experience, particularly in grassroots or faith-based settings.
Pay
This position will be hired at the Coordinator, Senior Coordinator, or Manager level depending on experience and qualifications:
- Coordinator: $52,500 - $67,200
- Senior Coordinator: $61,950 - $73,500
- Manager: $71,400 - $78,750
Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position. While most work is during a standard workday, outreach often occurs on evenings and weekends. Comp time will be provided for approved time worked outside regular hours.

Faith in Place is a multifaith environmental nonprofit (501c3) with outreach staff across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Our mission is to empower people of diverse faiths and spiritualities to lead on environmental and racial justice, providing resources to educate, connect, and advocate for healthier communities. All Faith in Place staff also contribute part of their working hours to the Faith in Place Action Fund (501c4), which raises memberships and motivates lobbying for environmental justice through grassroots lobbying, legislator scorecards, questionnaires, interviews, and candidate endorsements.
