About the Role

Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, perform a variety of routine support tasks integral to the operation of the pharmacy department. Tasks include preparing and distributing unit-dose medications, outpatient prescriptions, and stock orders while maintaining the safe handling and integrity of medications. May also involve responsibilities related to technical training and participation in departmental projects. Staffing assignments will include roles throughout the central pharmacy and designated specialized pharmacy areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all required pharmaceutical dosage calculations necessary to prepare extemporaneous dosage forms under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Adhere to safety requirements for handling non-hazardous medications in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare compounded sterile products using principles of aseptic technique, distribute and transport controlled substances in accordance with applicable regulations, or maintain code cart inventory (responsibilities are unit-specific).
  • Assist with the training of Pharmacy Technician Trainees.
  • Maintain familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements, prescription information, drug identification, generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and proper drug handling and storage practices.
  • Continuously improve skills necessary for area-specific technology, including robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems.
  • Read, interpret, and follow complex verbal and written instructions to prepare medications accurately in a sterile environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Pharmacy Technician [State License] required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] (PTCB) preferred.
  • Previous hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program is desired.
  • 1-2 years of experience required.

Skills

  • Perform intermediate mathematical calculations for preparing non-sterile, extemporaneously manufactured pharmaceutical products and other medication doses.
  • Follow all applicable state and federal controlled substance regulations.

This is an onsite position located at 55 Fruit Street.

Pay
