About the role

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement and is a union-represented role. In accordance with New Jersey pay transparency requirements, the anticipated hourly pay range for this position is $25.76-$28.55 USD per hour, depending on training and certification status.

New hires typically begin at $25.76 USD per hour, paid bi-weekly. This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay.

Upon successful completion of all required Central Control Operator training and achievement of CCO certification, the hourly rate increases to $28.55 USD per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Safely manage train movements and daily transportation operations
  • Maintain control systems and operating conditions
  • Support incident response and service recovery efforts
  • Coordinate work permits and access for maintenance teams
  • Maintain clear and effective radio and operational communications
  • Follow established safety rules, procedures, and operating standards

Requirements

  • Safety-sensitive position
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing
  • Ability to distinguish colors
  • Successful completion of required entry assessments
  • Successful completion of a 10-year background investigation
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 operation

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline or related field
  • Experience in operations, dispatching, transportation, logistics, utilities, manufacturing, airport operations, military operations, emergency services, or similar environments
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Windows applications
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, safety-sensitive environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overnight schedules

Skills

  • Operations, dispatching, or control center expertise
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Windows applications
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 operation
