Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), is seeking a qualified Central Characterization Program (CCP) Vendor Project Manager (VPM) to join our team in Oak Ridge, TN, working at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Responsibilities
- Complete the necessary training to obtain the CCP Vendor Project Manager qualification.
- Interface with working groups and customers from outside organizations to complete work scope.
- Provide oversight of CCP operations personnel.
- Provide Conduct of Operations leadership and expertise.
- Provide direction to assigned personnel regarding execution of work scope.
- Conduct and perform daily shift briefings and report daily plans and priorities to CCP management.
- Coordinate and supervise CCP equipment deployment, demobilization, and maintenance activities.
- Perform management observations and assist with management assessments.
- Develop lessons learned and task-specific briefings.
- Mentor team members and provide opportunities for professional development.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office.
- Position requires less than 25% travel to host sites across the Department of Energy (DOE) complex.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of related experience, or
- Associate’s degree with six (6) years of related experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with ten (10) years of related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operational safety, conduct of operations, and quality assurance programs.
- Physical demands include prolonged standing, extensive walking, lifting and carrying heavy weighted items (up to 50 pounds), negotiating stairs, ladders, and platforms, and working in various weather conditions.
- Professional experience must include leadership responsibilities.
- Current or prior experience in CCP or a similar waste characterization and certification program.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still comply with security requirements).
- Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
Qualifications
- Basic skills in researching and recommending alternative solutions to problems associated with the management, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, and quality control of TRU Mixed Waste.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to effectively interact with individuals at all organization levels.
- Understanding of nuclear safety principles, radiation protection, and emergency procedures.
- Knowledge of plant operations, systems, and processes within nuclear facilities.
Pay
$89,233 to $145,184 per year. The specific salary offered will be influenced by the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
