Purpose and Scope
The incumbent works with concrete by placing, leveling, and finishing concrete in engineering, construction, and renovation projects. Reporting to a Cement Mason Journeyman, the position is represented by a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Journeyman
- Able to place, level, and finish concrete by using power screed machine or by Rodding with straight edge.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools such as bull floats, hand floats, hand trowels, etc.
- Able to run gas-powered trowel machine, grinder, bushing machine, etc.
- Familiar with placing/finishing on-grade concrete via slip-form paver.
- Knowledge and experience in concrete spall and crack repair; removing and replacing with rapid-set concrete.
- Knowledge and experience making concrete joint repairs, crack chasing, and epoxy entrainment.
- Experience in grouting by hand or pump.
- Able to wear a respirator when handling epoxy or cementitious materials.
- Complies with all safety practices and environmental regulations.
- Computer skills to include computer-based time keeping programs and MS Office products.
Minimum Required Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- OSHA-10 card, Construction Industry
- CPR/First-Aid card
- ACI Certification-Flatwork finishes
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Frequent lifting/carrying 10 to 50 pounds of materials/supplies/tools.
- Frequent pushing and pulling using one/both hands/arms while performing concrete work exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
- Occasional climbing and walking on rebar while performing work over forms.
- Constant kneeling, crouching and crawling while installing/finishing cement/concrete surfaces.
- Constant use of both hands/arms reaching/handling/grasping/fingering/gripping while using tools to perform job tasks.
- Constant use of sight abilities to perform job duties requiring near- and mid-range vision, and hand/eye coordination.
- Frequent use of speech/hearing abilities while giving/receiving instructions, and in routine exchanges of information.
