CDOC Laundry Supervisor CSTS I (Pueblo)

About the role

This Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) position is a Laundry Supervisor at a correctional facility in Pueblo, CO. The CDOC mission and vision are promoted with integrity and commitment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security of facility and work sites
• Train and guide inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals
• Enforce security procedures by conducting work site searches and monitoring workplace environment and inmate behavior
• Initiate verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically control inmates with the proper application of restraints or "use of force" techniques
• Monitor, supervise and escort inmates according to facility policy and limits inmate access to restricted areas
• Respond to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to agency policy and write and submit required reporting
• Maintain safety and security by providing supervisory duties for assigned inmate crew
• Train and instruct inmates in laundry operations in compliance with agency policy and regulation
• Ensure adherence to established housekeeping and sanitation procedures
• Maintain safe, secure, and compliant laundry operations and equipment maintenance
• Prepare daily weight records, calculate daily consumption of supplies, maintain all laundry product inventory
• Maintain clothing movement records and document all issues, losses, and exchanges to provide accountability for all clothing & linen
• Oversee and schedule regular housekeeping assignments for the work unit and monitor the safe use and storage of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and tools

Requirements

• Four (4) years of employment experience in a commercial, institutional, or industrial setting operating commercial grade washers and dryers; laundry experience may be combined with commercial, institutional, or industrial housekeeping or janitorial experience in order to meet the four year minimum
• Or Applicant may meet the four year requirement with a combination of work experience as follows: A minimum of two (2) years of employment experience as described above may be combined with correctional experience (If you are using correctional experience, be sure to include details in the 'Work Experience' section of the application)
• Correctional Experience- must be security related duties where primary responsibilities included detaining, controlling movement and escorting inmates in a prison facility; conducting counts and searches while monitoring inmate assignments and movement throughout the day

• Proficiency in the operations of commercial/industrial washer and dryers
• Ability to effectively maintain established inventory, monitor and track supplies, and clothing, and control chemicals
• Ability to monitor equipment use and ensure manufacturer recommended maintenance and prompt repairs
• Clear understanding of the safe use of cleaning supplies, chemicals and sanitation processes
• Willingness and ability to effectively communicate while working with inmates individually and in groups, providing verbal and/or written instructions, monitoring work progress, quality and compliance, in a highly regulated environment with firm deadlines and mandatory reporting and record-keeping regulations
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively cooperate with other staff and inmates and inspire teamwork
• Willingness and ability to train, coach and mentor inmate workers in order to prepare them for community reentry
• Ability to effectively respond to emergency situations (such as fights, fires, medical emergencies and escapes)
• Self-control, a strong sense of ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations
• Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure and observant throughout their shift
• Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high-stakes interaction
• Ability to in close proximity to industrial equipment
• Ability to read and comprehend the English language
• Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
• Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supervising staff
• Experience in stain removal processes, textile repairs and alterations, and ironing processes
• Experience maintaining inventory and responsibility for unit procurement
• Registered Laundry and Linen Director (RLLD) or Certified Laundry/Linen Manager (CLLM)
