About the role

The Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) position is a Boiler Operator Supervisor for the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) at the Canon City correctional facility. This role ensures the safety and security of the general public, facility staff, and inmates; oversees boiler operations and inmate workers; and prepares inmates for community reentry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety and security of facility and work sites; train and guide inmates in proper use of controlled items, tools, equipment, and chemicals; conduct work site searches and monitor workplace environment and inmate behavior.
  • Enforce security procedures; initiate verbal reprimands and physical control measures as needed; perform inmate counts and transportation; respond to emergencies.
  • Ensure safe and efficient boiler operations; conduct regular checks, readings, and maintenance on boilers and associated systems; work with other trades for project assistance.
  • Supervise and train inmate workers; set work standards, hire inmates, assign tasks, evaluate performance, and manage schedules.
  • Promote compliance with codes and regulations; track tool, equipment, and part usage; ensure budget adherence; work overtime as needed.

Requirements

Must have four (4) years of employment experience as a utility plant or boiler operator, or a combination of experience as a plumber, pipe-fitter, or HVAC installer/repairer, with a minimum of two (2) years of boiler-related experience. Must also have security-related correctional experience.

  • Intermediate keyboarding skills and ability to use computerized programs.

Pay

This position is compensated on a bi-weekly pay cycle.

Schedule

The first recruitment is for the Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility. The eligibility list created from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in Canon City.
