About the role
This position involves operating a residential/recycling collection truck, side-load and/or rear-load truck, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems to collect solid waste and/or recyclables on specified routes. Responsibilities include loading waste into vehicles, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, identifying prohibited waste, and communicating vehicle issues.
Responsibilities
- Operate truck and equipment to collect solid waste and recyclables
- Load solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables into trucks
- Compact trash into vehicles using equipment
- Inspect and report on pre-trip and post-trip safety
- Communicate vehicle issues to mechanics and supervisors
- Maintain route quality standards
- Follow safety standards and equipment checks
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness
- Tag and remove prohibited waste items
- Manage Helper(s) if applicable
- Report accidents or incidents to supervisors
- Maintain accurate records of services performed
- Recommend purchases of additional containers, carts, and spare parts to supervisor
- Improve routing efficiencies with supervisor
- Attend safety and branch meetings
- Perform other duties as requested
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- One year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate
- Ability to meet safety sensitive function criteria
- Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance
- Ability to control equipment and maneuver truck safely
- Ability to recognize and communicate about unacceptable waste
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend associated documents and maps
- Ability to follow company safety policies and procedures
- Physical abilities to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 100 pounds
- Visual acuity to see details and adjust focus
- Ability to work in loud, sometimes hazardous environments
- Outdoor work in various weather conditions
