This role provides product management and public-health informatics support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) National Electronic Disease Surveillance System Base System (NBS). Supports modernization, implementation, configuration, and continuous-improvement activities that enable CDC and jurisdictional partners to use NBS for disease surveillance, case investigation, public-health reporting, and interoperability. Serves as the liaison between public-health programs, end users, and technical teams. Translates operational needs, surveillance workflows, and user feedback into actionable product requirements for successful implementation and adoption of modernized capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Product Manager for modernization activities for case notification; support product management across other modernization workstreams
  • Collaborate with CDC staff, subject-matter experts in public health, jurisdictional partners, and technical teams to gather, analyze, and refine business and functional requirements
  • Develop epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and other Agile product artifacts
  • Translate surveillance workflows and user needs into clear, implementable product requirements
  • Support product planning, roadmap development, release planning, and feature prioritization
  • Support sprint planning and feature demonstrations
  • Support user-acceptance testing, release readiness, implementation planning, and product documentation
  • Maintain, manage, and refine product backlogs to align work with priorities and objectives
  • Support the application of national public-health interoperability standards, implementation guidance, and surveillance practices during product development
  • Coordinate with public-health informaticians, epidemiologists, standards experts, and engineers to ensure modernization activities support operational public-health workflows
  • Evaluate stakeholder feedback and recommend product improvements that enhance usability and implementation
  • Coordinate with CDC programs; state, local, tribal, and territorial (STLT) public-health partners; and internal delivery teams to gather feedback and communicate product direction

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health informatics, information systems, computer science, or a related field and nine (9) years of relevant experience, or a master's degree in a relevant field and seven (7) years of experience
  • Experience with communicable-disease surveillance systems such as NBS or National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS)
  • Experience working with CDC or STLT public-health agencies
  • Experience gathering and documenting business and functional requirements
  • Experience developing user stories, acceptance criteria, or other Agile product artifacts
  • Experience with public-health surveillance systems and a demonstrated understanding of key principles and practices of surveillance
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, public-health professionals, and executive stakeholders
  • Ability to complete and maintain a federal-government Position of Public Trust Level 5 background investigation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a distributed, team-oriented, and collaborative environment with federal partners and other federal contractors
  • Experience supporting public-health modernization or health-information exchange initiatives
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or comparable Agile certification

Additional Information

We are a remote organization, but we prioritize in-person collaboration during key events such as our annual company meeting. For this position, the candidate must reside in the United States.

Pay

$110,000 - $130,000
