Catering Events Manager

Tufts Dining is a self-operated food service provider managing a comprehensive collegiate food service program on the Tufts University Medford/Somerville and Boston/Fenway (SMFA) campuses, delivering high quality, contemporary, and innovative food and hospitality services. Our team operates a progressive resident dining program, innovative retail services, and a distinctive university catering program serving a campus community of 6,500 undergraduates, 2,100 graduate students, and 2,300 staff, faculty, and administrators.

About the role

The Tufts Catering Event Manager executes all catering services performed by Tufts Catering. This role manages catered events in person, oversees staff, and delivers exceptional customer service. The manager will train staff to industry standards, ensure high-level hospitality, and strive to make Tufts Catering the preferred partner to the university community.

Responsibilities

• Manage catered events in person and deliver exceptional customer service
• Train and supervise staff to industry standards in catering techniques
• Plan and organize assigned staff both verbally and in writing with clear directions
• Manage staff in adherence to the Collective Bargaining Contract
• Prepare and post weekly catering staff schedules as business dictates
• Execute revenue-minded planning and scheduling to support department goals
• Guarantee stellar customer service to ensure repeat business
• Support and pursue Tufts Dining’s department-wide goals
• Apply foodservice management and catering skills, including knowledge of standard and VIP catering services

Requirements

• High School Equivalent, Associate's Degree, or above, preferably in Hospitality, Management, or Business
• Experience in planning and executing events for a high-volume off-site caterer, university, hotel, or banquet facility with multiple venues
• 2+ years of scheduling and supervising full-service catering staff
• Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License in good standing with no restrictions
• Fine dining and modern catering concept experience (e.g., interactive food stations, themed receptions, VIP events)
• Experience with responsible alcohol service and knowledge of bar, wine, and cocktail service
• Ability to manage multiple events simultaneously
• Culinary experience in high-end catering service or restaurants

Pay

Salary range: $55,600.00 – $83,400.00. New hires can generally expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity.
