Category Manager - Indirect Procurement (Services)
About the role
The Category Manager - Indirect Procurement is responsible for optimizing spending on non-production services through strategic planning, supplier management, and financial analysis.
Responsibilities
Develop 3-year category roadmaps considering global market volatility, labor trends, and technological shifts.
Curate a high-performing supply base by right-sizing vendor numbers and mitigating single-source risks.
Create should-cost models to understand cost drivers and negotiate with a data-driven advantage.
Design Value-Based RFx processes prioritizing outcomes and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Draft robust MSAs and SOWs with clear Service Level Agreements (SLAs), liquidated damages, and continuous improvement clauses.
Lead quarterly SBRs with Tier 1 suppliers to drive innovation and ensure they are the "Customer of Choice."
Shift the conversation from "price" to "value," identifying hidden costs in service delivery, implementation, and off-boarding.
Negotiate favorable payment terms and lead-time reductions to maximize corporate cash flow.
Work with internal departments to challenge "need vs. want" and reduce unnecessary consumption of services at the source.
Qualifications
Experience in managing indirect services procurement within a global or enterprise-level environment.
Proven track record in Category Management, especially developing and executing strategic roadmaps for non-production spend.
Expertise in Business Services categories (e.g., HR, Consulting, Marketing, or Facilities).
Experience in Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), including leading executive-level SBRs for Tier 1 vendors.
Consultative Approach: Ability to act as a "commercial architect," partnering with executive leadership to align procurement strategy with departmental goals.
Strong influence skills to challenge internal stakeholders on consumption patterns ("need vs. want") to reduce waste at the source.
Sharp analytical skills to interpret global labor trends, market volatility, and the impact of emerging technologies (e.g., AI) on service delivery.
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, MCIPS) are a plus.
Pay, Benefits & Schedule
Target Base Salary Range: $105,000.00 - $125,000.00
Location: Employee must be based in the Greater Chicago Area with the expectation to be in office up to 3 days per week.
