About the Role

Mustang Cat is hiring a Compact Equipment Technician to support the maintenance and repair of Caterpillar compact construction equipment at our Katy, TX branch. Beginning October 1, our Compact Equipment division will begin servicing customers from our Willis location, and we're building our team in preparation for this exciting expansion.

Your career will begin at Mustang Cat Headquarters (12800 Northwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77040), where you'll complete onboarding, training, and work alongside experienced technicians before transitioning to our Katy branch as Compact Equipment operations begin on October 1.

This role is responsible for performing inspections, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs to ensure Caterpillar compact equipment is operating safely and efficiently while delivering exceptional service to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on Caterpillar compact construction equipment
  • Complete assigned repairs efficiently while maintaining high-quality workmanship
  • Perform inspections, fluid services, adjustments, and operational testing
  • Remove, install, disassemble, and reassemble components with minimal supervision
  • Utilize electronic service systems and technical resources to document repairs and complete work orders
  • Follow contamination control, HAZMAT, and company safety procedures
  • Perform equipment inspections and identify maintenance or repair needs
  • Complete required training and stay current on Caterpillar products, systems, and service procedures
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1–3 years of experience repairing heavy equipment, compact construction equipment, diesel engines, or related machinery
  • General knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic systems
  • Experience using hand tools, precision measuring equipment, and diagnostic software
  • Ability to read and follow service procedures and technical documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the tools necessary to perform assigned repairs
  • Professional communication skills and a strong customer service mindset
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced service environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on Caterpillar compact equipment or similar construction equipment
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar systems such as DBS, SIS, and SIMS
  • Forklift or aerial lift certification
  • Previous military or technical school training in diesel or heavy equipment repair
