About the role
The Banquet Houseman position entails physically setting up a function room based upon the Banquet Event Order. The position involves reading a BEO and determining which equipment is needed, understanding the design of the room, determining linen requirements and paper supplies necessary to complete the banquet event. Activities include lifting up to 75 lbs, vacuuming carpets, polishing glass and mirror tops, delivering boxes of materials for clients, and other front-of-house guest service duties.
Responsibilities
- Act as an ambassador of the hotel, both in and outside the workplace
- Maintain a high-energy, positive, professional appearance
- Provide personal service to guests, fully adhering to hotel standards and procedures
- Relay accurate directions to guests/visitors regarding washrooms, meeting rooms, and meal rooms
- Assist staff to ensure they maximize their service standards
- Report serious guest complaints and comments to management
- Strictly respect key handling procedures
- Respect schedules, terms, and deadlines as agreed with management
- Share daily activity with the supervisor, including internal and external guest opportunities
- Adhere to Fairmont Olympic Hotel service standards
- Be flexible and adapt to last-minute requests from the hotel or guests
- Perform opening and/or closing duties as required
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
- Customer service experience preferred
- Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and handle multiple tasks, colleagues, and guest requests
- Desire to understand and anticipate the needs of others in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for guest service, strong guest service orientation, and training skills required
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Banquet or event experience preferred
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
Physical Aspects of Position
- Constant standing and walking throughout shift
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs
- Constant kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
- Frequent ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps
