Caseworker – Stillwater

Position Description

This part‑time, temporary position reviews assistance applications, schedules and conducts client appointments at Our Daily Bread in Stillwater, assesses client needs, and determines eligibility for financial assistance. The Caseworker provides budgeting support and financial coaching, connects clients with community resources, and makes referrals to partner agencies. Limited scheduling and administrative duties may be performed remotely.

Responsibilities

• Review assistance applications and determine client eligibility for financial assistance.
• Schedule and conduct client appointments, including remote sessions when appropriate.
• Assess client needs through individual interviews and assessments.
• Provide budgeting support and financial coaching.
• Connect clients with appropriate community resources and make referrals to partner agencies.
• Advocate on behalf of clients with utility companies and other service providers.
• Process assistance payments, submit check requests through Blackbaud, and maintain detailed financial records in Blackbaud and other tracking systems.
• Enter and maintain accurate client information in agency tracking spreadsheets and electronic client files.
• Maintain current knowledge of available community resources and services.
• Coordinate with utility companies to obtain account information, verify balances, arrange payments, and negotiate service continuation or reconnection.
• Document services provided and maintain confidential records.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including limited scheduling and administrative tasks performed remotely.
• Act as a ministerial representative of Catholic Charities, maintaining professional and personal conduct that aligns with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church.
• Engage in daily prayer, Mass, or adoration for the needs of the poor.
• Learn and apply Catholic teaching in the role and help foster a shared culture of ministry across program operations and management.
• Develop trusting relationships with clients, providing advocacy, guidance, and direction to improve their circumstances.
• Consult with the Supervisor regarding special circumstances, exceptions, or unusually complex client situations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field preferred; equivalent education and/or a minimum of three years of relevant experience in casework or social services.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
• Strong commitment to the mission and vision of Catholic Charities and a desire to serve individuals and families in need with compassion, dignity, and respect.
• Detail‑oriented, organized, proactive, and dependable, with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy.

• Compassionate, approachable, and able to minister effectively with individuals and families from economically, culturally, and socially diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional telephone and email communication.
• Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills, with the ability to assess client needs.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and able to learn agency‑specific software such as Blackbaud.
