About the Role

The Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD), within the Department of Health & Human Services, is looking for a dedicated professional to fill our Caseworker Specialist II position on the Intake and Waiting List team. This role provides support to individuals with Developmental Disabilities or Acquired Brain Injuries going through the application process or on the waiting list for DSPD services.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate psychological evaluations, developmental assessments, and/or medical documentation to determine program eligibility.
  • Assist with requesting documentation to support an individual’s application.
  • Complete initial and annual Needs Assessment Questionnaires and Waiting List Surveys.
  • Complete Comprehensive Brain Injury Assessments.
  • Assess situations and provide resource information to prevent or resolve crisis situations.
  • Attend school transition fairs and community resource events.
  • Document interactions with clients and/or advocates in a timely and professional manner.
  • Represent DSPD on multi-agency committees to answer questions about services, intake/eligibility, and waiting list processes.
  • Assist with covering the intake phone line 2-3 times per month.
  • Support and sustain DSPD goals, plans, and objectives.
  • Respond to calls and emails from clients, advocates, or families.
  • Link individuals with community resources to help meet needs while on the waiting list.
  • Complete referrals for emergency services when appropriate.
  • Employ techniques to de-escalate discussions when individuals or families are dealing with difficult circumstances.

  • Experience supporting individuals with disabilities to lead self-determined lives.
  • Understanding of Division services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Excellent listening skills and proactive approach.
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of people and agencies with varying interests.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Experience supporting individuals with disabilities, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS), Medicaid, and Medicaid Waivers.

Generally, the best qualified individuals for this job will have obtained licensure as a Social Worker, Social Service Worker, Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, or QIDP (Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional). Previous experience with the community or assigned client base is also preferred. If the assignment includes working with deaf or hard of hearing individuals, the ability to communicate fluently in sign language may be preferred.
