Cartographic Technician.

This is a developmental position in the Engineering & Construction Division, Hydraulics & Hydrology Branch and may be filled at the GS-09, GS-10, or GS-11 level. If selected at the GS-09 or GS-10 level, the target level for this assignment is a GS-11. The grade level selected will be based on qualifications and responses to the questionnaire.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate state-of-the-art Multi-beam channel sweep bathymetric data collection techniques on board the Survey Vessel Chasteen to enhance requesting districts' knowledge of Multi-beam data collection.
• Ensure study data is edited and interpreted correctly and assist in preparing necessary conclusions and recommendations critical for product completion.
• Assist agency personnel in preparing hydrographic survey data with respect to Multi-beam/Channel Sweep data collection.
• Meet with technical representatives of other Corps districts and federal agencies to advise on the efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective uses of Multi-beam/Channel Sweep technology.
• Interact with clients and technical experts in bathymetry to ensure technology is applied in the most efficient and cost-effective manner to produce expected results.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Business Travel / Temporary Duty (TDY) may be up to 50% annually.
• Must possess and maintain a valid USACE boat operator's license within 6 months of employment to operate government-owned vessels as required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver’s License.
• This position is covered by DOT rules and USACE ER 690-1-1218; may be subject to random alcohol and drug testing on an unannounced basis.
• Incumbent is required to sign DA Form 7412 "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under the Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing."
• Must be able to operate a truck pulling a trailer.
• Required to complete CPR Safety training.
• Requires completion of a pre-employment and annual physical examination to ensure required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
• Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
• This position requires a 1-year probationary period.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.

GS-09 Level:

• One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in collecting data using Multi-beam/Channel Sweep technology. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
• Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).

GS-10 Level:

• One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in preparing the final product necessary to document technical results of study or investigation; and assisting in collecting data using Multi-beam/Channel Sweep technology. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
• Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

GS-11 Level:

• One year of specialized experience which includes advising counterparts on the appropriate and/or efficient use of channel sweep technology to produce valid and/or cost-effective cartographic products; assisting in preparing the final product necessary to document technical results of study or investigation; and collecting data using Multi-beam/Channel Sweep technology. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
• Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).
