Carpenter / Maintenance Tech

Summary

The Carpenter/Maintenance Technician is a key member of the Property Team responsible for repairing, maintaining, and improving 20+ buildings located on 235 acres in Horsham, PA. The environmental education campus includes buildings, private residences, seasonal housing, two pools, a pond, walking trails, fields, woods, and wetlands. The ideal candidate will have experience in carpentry and general labor tasks to assist with various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the day-to-day maintenance and year-round upkeep of the overnight camp and day camp, as well as the Spruce Run Outpost if called upon.
  • Communicate effectively to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to maintenance of the camps.
  • Dig, lift, load, and unload a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Execute organization's Risk Management and Hazmat policies.
  • Perform work related to the following trades and services: demolition, framing, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, cleaning, tree work, and landscaping.
  • Set up and maintain a child-safe working area during projects.
  • Assist in the fixing and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School Diploma and 5-7 years of experience.
  • Proven experience as a carpenter or laborer in the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with construction site safety protocols.
  • Ability to utilize and work off an extension ladder.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Clear background check and Child Abuse Clearance.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of trim and finish carpentry, rough carpentry, painting, skills with equipment/power tools, walkway building, roofing, door and window installation, and safety protocols.
  • Plumbing, electrical, and HVAC knowledge or experience is an added bonus.
  • Willingness to handle landscape projects.
  • Well-rounded carpenter with working knowledge of all phases of construction.

Certifications Required

Certifications that will be required to obtain within the first 6 months of hire: Chainsaw Safety Certification and CPR/First Aid.

Work Environment

This position operates both outdoors as well as in a maintenance workshop and requires extensive outdoor work all year long. In the summer, there may be considerable exposure to heat. In the winter, there will be exposure to cold weather.

Physical Demands

There are significant physical demands in this position depending on the maintenance or repair project. There may be heavy lifting from time to time. In addition, because of the outdoor work, there are additional physical demands.

Schedule

This is a full-time 40 hours per week position which may require flexible hours during the summer and occasional weekends.
