Carpenter Helper

About the role

ARCHER WESTERN is currently seeking a Carpenter Helper for the GDOT SR 316 BUNDLE 2 project in ATHENS-CLARKE, GA. The Carpenter Helper constructs, erects, and installs structures made of wood, plywood, wallboard, and other materials using carpentry hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machines for jobsites including commercial, industrial, or heavy civil projects; provides assistance to other Carpenters on the jobsite.

Responsibilities

• Measures distance and marks guidelines on working surface to prepare for laying down work
• Prepares, builds, and installs wooden structures in line with prefabricated units to form bridges, drain structures, highway structures, walls, and additional structures
• May assist with installation of awnings, metal decking for concrete slabs (if decking is removed)
• Uses carpenter’s belt with carpentry hand tools, power tools, and other wood making machinery

Qualifications

• 1–3 years verifiable experience preferred
• Ability to climb and maintain balance on scaffold/ladder
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; may be required to work in adverse weather conditions
• Ability to comply with all safety policies and procedures; communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure projects are completed properly
• Strong work ethic and desire to learn
• Good manual dexterity; may be standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting for long periods
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
