About the role
The Carpenter Helper position is located in Carthage, TX. This role supports carpenters in various construction tasks, contributing to project success in outdoor and often remote job sites.
Responsibilities
- Assist carpenters with preparing the layout of the project.
- Learn to estimate height, width, length, and other proportions.
- Help select materials and understand blueprints or follow instructions from supervisors.
- Utilize tools such as hammers, pry-bars, chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures.
- Work on ladders and scaffolding.
- Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure structures are level and secure.
- Create structures for pouring concrete.
- Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
- Aim for high production with good quality output.
- Perform other duties as required.

- Follow OPD and client safety policies and procedures.
- Be aware of changing conditions on an active jobsite.
- Be on time to the jobsite each day ready for work.

Physical Demands
- Capable of working in outdoor weather and environmental conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, cold, and high elevations.
- Lifting and carrying awkward objects up to 60 lbs.
- Standing for extended periods up to 12 hours per day.
- Considerable use of arms, legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, crawling, twisting, reaching, and bending on a regular basis.
- Good hand-eye coordination for handling, controlling, and feeling objects and tools.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of civil construction.
- Minimum of 6 months experience as a craftsman helper.
- Willingness to travel with extended periods away from home in remote areas.
- Ability to work outside in extreme heat, humidity, and cold conditions.
- Willingness to attend mandatory safety meetings.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Willingness to work shifts up to 12 hours per day and 7 days per week.
- Ability to meet basic physical requirements.
