Responsibilities
- Working with wood, aluminum, steel, or herculite to fabricate saw horses, ladders, steps, shipping containers, protective covers, and other items
- Shoring, jacking, and leveling of ship sections
- Installing fabricated furniture items and joiner doors on ships
- Installing temporary wooden decking panels
- Line handling to support ship float-off, sea trials, and inclining evolutions
- Conducting weight and pull tests using various types of rigging equipment
Requirements
- Preferred High School Diploma or GED
- 2 or more years of Trade/Technical schooling
- Ability to read a measuring tape
- Basic math skills
- Ability to work with hand tools as well as power tools, band saws, table saws, planers, and lathes
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work on staging or in a condo lift
- Experience reading blueprints
- 2 or more years working in a relevant trade
- Prior boatswain’s mate / coxswain experience
- Must be able to meet the requirements of the Physical Task Analysis
