Carpenter Foreman
About the role
This position constructs and repairs building frameworks as well as structures. Stairways, doorframes, partitions, rafters, cabinetry, siding, and drywall are a few examples of the onsite tasks this role is responsible for completing. Carpenters pay great attention to project detail and have a strong understanding of wood and metal properties. Carpenters are also required at various times to perform virtually all carpenter support activities typically handled by laborers. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and assist with the assembly and removal of forms used for concrete installation.
- Use assorted power tools and small hand tools, including ten-pound sledgehammers, shovels, picks, handsaws, skill saws, and drills to assist with a variety of worksite projects.
- Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully grasp project requirements and assign teams appropriately.
- Manage materials including inventory, distribution, and placement.
- Monitor project performance and report updates to management.
- Coordinate with other trade partners’ foremen and superintendents as necessary.
- Promote a safe work environment and communicate jobsite hazards, including securing the jobsite at the end of each business day and verifying proper storage of all site materials.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Carpenter.
- OSHA 10 Certification (preferred).
- CPR & First Aid Certification (preferred).
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- In-depth carpentry knowledge.
- Experience using and maintaining power tools and small hand tools.
- Ability to take initiative and ask questions.
- Keen attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Must provide own safety footwear.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact professionally with co-workers and stakeholders.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.
- Reliable and punctual, including consistent work attendance and reliable transportation.
- Experience in construction layout, blueprint reading, and shop drawing reading (preferred).
Physical Requirements
This role involves heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The individual will periodically:
- Walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and use fingers/type.
- Frequently move about the jobsite.
- Operate a computer or tablet and other office machinery such as calculators and phones.
- Communicate with employees and external stakeholders regarding office and field administration.
- Read written communications, mail submissions, blueprints, load charts, and verify field measurements.
- Climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps at various heights.
- Work from heights for extended periods.
- Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching (balancing).
- Bend the body downward and forward by the spine at the waist (stooping).
- Extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction for various lengths of time (reaching).
- Apply pressure to objects with fingers and palm regularly (grasping).
- Use hands and wrists with various tools.
- Engage in prolonged use of jackhammers and pavement breakers.
- Use wheelbarrows and brooms.
- Tolerate repetitive use of hands and wrists using power, rotational, and vibration tools.
- Tolerate legally permissible exposure to dusts and chemicals, such as cement dust, solvents, and curing compounds.
- Safely wear a respirator and pass applicable medical and fit testing examinations.
- Hear commands from supervisors and back-up safety alarms on equipment.
Occasionally exposed to high and low temperatures, noisy environments, and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
