About Alpha

Alpha reimagines the school day around faster learning, stronger mentorship, and more time for students to build real-world skills. Alpha hires teachers (guides), operators, admissions experts, school & curriculum leaders, and remote team members. Education work that pays like it matters: Alpha offers six-figure roles for people ready to help build a radically better school experience. A culture built for builders: Alpha is fast-moving, ambitious, and student focused. It’s for people who want to improve the system, not maintain it.

About the Role

This is not a teaching position. Your role is to motivate. The most supportive action you can take for a student who reaches 99% of their goal is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that expectation feels uncomfortable, this role is not for you. If it energizes you—because maintaining high standards demonstrates your belief in what a student can achieve—then continue reading.

At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-powered applications. No lectures. No textbooks. You will spend half of each day facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, and effective feedback exchange. The remaining half is dedicated to 1:1 or small-group sessions where you analyze student progress via Coachbot analytics and drive each individual to complete 100% of their weekly app targets. You will not follow a rigid script—workshops provide a foundation, but top performers in this role customize them and create new content when needed.

Success is defined by three outcomes: every student in your cohort completes their weekly app goals, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90%+ report that they love you. Falling short on any of these three measures means the job is not being fulfilled.

During your first year, you will master the operational framework; as you demonstrate your ability to uphold standards, opportunities open to advance to Lead Guide, where you mentor new hires while continuing to work directly with students.

If you prefer traditional teaching methods, need a pre-built curriculum handed to you, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position is not a fit. If you have experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, tutor who refused to let students give up, or performer capable of commanding a room of eight-year-olds, the final stage before an offer involves spending a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, focus, feedback, and other foundational competencies, customizing the playbook and creating new sessions when you identify a need
  • Conducting daily 1:1 and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student to complete 100% of their weekly app goals, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your individual rapport to overcome resistance
  • Administering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based assessment) for each life skill, and providing coaching to students who do not pass until mastery is achieved
  • Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct communication and accountability
  • Serving as the adult who maintains high expectations and the adult students trust and want to confide in; warmth grants you credibility to challenge, and challenging demonstrates your confidence in their potential

What You Won't Be Doing

  • Delivering lectures at a whiteboard; academic content is housed within the apps, not delivered by you
  • Creating curriculum from the ground up; you activate an established playbook with energy and narrative skill
  • Passively monitoring students at computers; motivation in this model is active, interpersonal, and persistent
  • Reducing a weekly target to enable a student to meet it; when a student falls behind, the solution is supporting the student, not adjusting the goal
  • Grading assignments, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent communication; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks do not exist in this model

Career Coach Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure every student in your K-8 cohort achieves their weekly learning targets, demonstrates mastery of each life skill, and concludes the year reporting that they loved you.

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject

  • A specific example you can describe of motivating a K-8 student to a hard goal: the goal, what you did, and the outcome
  • Willingness to let AI handle the instructional content while you focus on motivation and life-skills coaching
  • Daily use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
  • Legal right to work in the US without visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto campus)

  • Experience in youth athletics coaching, debate, camp leadership, drama, or after-school programs where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward defined objectives
