Career Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD
About the role
At Alpha, students master academic content through AI-driven adaptive learning applications. Your focus is on motivation and essential life skills—elements conventional schools typically relegate to the sidelines. You facilitate workshops and work individually with K-8 students to drive them toward 100% completion of their weekly app targets, using tools like school currency, leaderboards, and Coachbot analytics. Your performance is measured by three metrics: all students complete their weekly app goals, all pass the Test2Pass mastery verification for each workshop, and 90% or higher report that they love you.
This is a full-time, on-site position at one of Alpha's campuses. Current openings at this salary level are in Scottsdale, AZ; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth, Houston, and Brownsville, TX; Springfield, MA; and Park City, UT. Relocation assistance is available.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 groups covering public speaking, focus, and the exchange of constructive feedback.
- Conduct daily one-on-one and small-group motivation sessions to drive every student to 100% of their weekly app targets, utilizing Coachbot analytics and Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards).
- Deliver the Test2Pass mastery assessment for each life skill, then provide additional coaching to any student who does not pass until mastery is achieved.
- Modify the workshop playbook and create new sessions when needed, ensuring content resonates with both kindergarteners and eighth graders.
- Serve as both the adult who maintains high standards and the trusted confidant your students willingly turn to.
- Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year reporting they loved school.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Delivering instruction at a whiteboard, creating math and reading lesson plans, or grading assignments (academic teaching is handled by the apps).
- Conducting standardized test preparation or being held accountable for class-wide test scores.
- Managing parent conferences, emails, or concerns (campus leadership handles all parent communication).
- Controlling behavior in large groups (cohorts are small, and behavioral work is one-on-one coaching).
- Passively monitoring children at computers (motivation here is hands-on and interpersonal).
Requirements
- Willing to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Scottsdale, AZ; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth, Houston, and Brownsville, TX; Springfield, MA; or Park City, UT.
- Bachelor's degree in any field.
- At least 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (e.g., classroom instruction, tutoring, athletic coaching, camp leadership, or youth program facilitation).
- Comfortable allowing adaptive learning software to handle academic instruction while you focus on motivation and life-skills coaching.
- A documented history of high achievement—academic, athletic, or professional—that demonstrates your ability to uphold rigorous standards.
- Command of a room sufficient to engage a group of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Youth sports coaching, debate, theater, camp leadership, or after-school program experience where you were directly responsible for students achieving a defined objective.
- Background teaching social-emotional learning (SEL) or durable-skills curriculum.
- A specific example of a student who transitioned from disengaged or resistant to fully invested, along with the precise action you took.
- Regular use of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
