Position Summary

The Division of Women’s Mental Health in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is seeking a Care Coordinator to support outpatient operations and overall care coordination for patients. The ideal candidate will serve as a primary point of contact for all patient services, scheduling, and administrative needs.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison for the patient and family, working with both administrative and clinical staff from multiple divisions and departments to improve the patient’s overall experience and ensure appropriate care coordination.
  • Enhance the patient’s experience by serving as the primary point of contact and administrative care coordinator for patients and family members.
  • Ensure that all related patient appointments for an episode of care are secured in a timely manner and coordinated for patient convenience, addressing and resolving process or administrative issues that impede timely access to care.
  • Collaborate with providers and members of the care delivery team to triage, coordinate, and consistently manage the patient journey.
  • Obtain benefits verification and prior authorizations.
  • Work with patients and families to answer questions and resolve issues, particularly around insurance coverage.
  • Develop and coordinate a system that organizes the flow of patients from initial appointment to completion of their care experience.
  • Apply advanced interpersonal and communication skills in all interactions with patients, clinical personnel, and administrative personnel. Adapt well to change and priority level of duties.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with division and organizational needs.
  • Serve as a role model of excellent customer service.
  • Respond constructively to the needs of all individuals with whom they interact on a daily basis.
  • Assess and monitor customer satisfaction and respond promptly to voiced and identified concerns.
  • Communicate complimentary/constructive feedback from self and others to staff.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with the growth of a brand-new program for the department.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience.
  • Proficient computer skills required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to provide a high level of customer service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in healthcare administration, business, psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in patient care coordination, patient scheduling, or secretarial role.
  • Spanish-speaking a plus.

Pay

Salary range: $66,300.00 - $70,000.00. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
