Cardiovascular Technologist Consultant/Trainer – Radiology Department
About the role
Provide quality care close to home as our Blue Mountain Hospital District mission states. This is to include great diagnostic imaging, patient care and customer service. It is expected to care for our patients from the moment we get an order to the time they leave the department.
Responsibilities
- Performs exams from start to finish.
- Confirm order is accurate and has authorization.
- Call and schedule patients according to department protocol.
- Enter correct demographics and order into the RIS.
- Perform exam according to the physician order and Cardiologist protocols.
- Administer contrast per physician order and Cardiologist protocols.
- Notate appropriate documentation.
- Make exam available to Cardiologist to be read.
- Complete the correct exam within the hospital EHR for charges.
- Maintain Infection Control and Equipment.
- Clean after every patient.
- PRACTICE GOOD HAND HYGIENE.
- Wipe down high touch surfaces.
- Wear proper PPE.
- Clean and maintain equipment per manufactures recommendations.
- Use Trophon to disinfect probes.
- Meet, Maintain and Exceed Department Competencies.
- Competency checklist provided by department.
- Demonstrate Competency in IV starts.
- Scheduling.
- Using PACs.
- Teach.
- How to properly document exams.
- How to properly perform exams according to protocols and policies.
- How to properly charge.
- How to properly use Definity or equivalent.
- How to troubleshoot positioning, patient habitus and technical factors.
- Be a positive trainer with your trainee’s success in mind.
- Other possible duties but not limited to:
- Perform EKGs and any documentation associated with them.
- Assist in patient transfers with fellow departments.
- Track inventory and supplies.
- Aids with department quality and safety.
Requirements
- Basic computer skills.
- Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
- Must be able to maneuver patients on table in order to obtain proper images.
- Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Able to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
- Completes appropriate imaging modality orientation/competency of equipment and protocols within the department.
- Uses AIDET according to BMH policy.
- Uses appropriate technical factors.
- Appropriate positioning for the exam ordered by physician.
- Practices good sterile techniques.
- Performs ultrasound bubble studies per Cardiologist protocols.
- Critical thinking: Seeks resources for direction, when necessary.
- Performs independent problem solving.
- Decision-making is logical and deliberate.
- Exercises safe judgement in decision making.
- Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.
- Practices patient safety at all times.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited certificate program.
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
- Maintain the required amount of CEU’s per certifying body.
- Minimum 2 year experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of diagnostic cardiac sonography.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good sterile techniques.
- Proper positioning for exams.
- Use of appropriate technical factors.
