Cardiovascular Specialist RTR RCIS ARRT
About the role
The Cath Lab Cardiovascular Specialist assumes responsibility for the routine care and maintenance of radiological equipment, in addition, assumes responsibility for quality patient care, maintenance of required cath lab competencies and assistance in all aspects of invasive, or non-invasive cardiac procedures.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a professional public image and attitude toward visitors, patients and co-workers, along with the Medical Staff.
- Shall be courteous, cooperative and use compassion and discretion with regard to patient's right to privacy.
- Explains all procedures to help alleviate anxiety.
- Gives primary and critical patient care and administers necessary medications per doctor’s orders, per physician’s extender, while patient is in the lab.
- Checks emergency cart and controlled medications and documents per department guidelines.
- Assigned procedures are performed according to TMCA policy, procedure and guidelines to include:
- In a scrubbing, monitoring or circulating capacity assists physicians with percutaneous or cut-down procedures done in The Medical Center of Aurora, South Campus.
- Operating equipment necessary to the implementation of all procedures in routine, or emergency situations.
- Starts IV infusion lines per physician order.
- Maintains adequate records and procedure log data collection.
- Recognizes basic EKG rhythms.
- Aids in the education of patient’s pre, peri, and post-procedure.
- Completes assigned supply ordering.
- Evaluates stocking needs on a daily basis.
- Checks expiration dates on medications and on re-usable and disposable items.
- P Practices radiation safety.
- Follows CHI and The Medical Center of Aurora, South Campus policies for fire, safety and infection control.
- Prepares and operates sophisticated radiographic equipment including x-ray table, camera, video recorders, ultrasound machine and pressure injectors.
- Demonstrates flexibility in work schedule by working over-time, when needed and maintaining an on-call schedule, as assigned.
- Supports and participates in in-service education.
- Processes, files and stores films in accordance with CHI policies and procedures.
- Assists in transferring patients to and from the Cath Lab for procedures.
- Reports to receiving nursing unit all specifics regarding procedure performed.
- Admits, assesses, recovers, discharges and follow-up Colorado Heart Institute outpatients, or physician available prn.
- Completes special projects as assigned by Clinical Director.
- Adds addresses age-specific duties for adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. This includes, but is not limited to, teaching, safety, privacy, disabilities, and patient support.
- Maintains current in the policies and procedures regarding safety issues in the department.
- Aids with quality assurance, or performance projects, as directed.
Qualifications
- Licensure/Certification/ Registration: Current registration as Registered Radiology Technologist (RTR), or current certification as Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or current certification as Registered Radiologist (ARRT).
- Current BLS & ACLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Education: Accredited RTR and/or RCIS training program.
- Experience: 2 years experience in interventional radiology procedures (RTR) preferred or 2 years experience in cardiovascular lab setting preferred (RCIS) or 2 years experience as a Registered Radiographer (ARRT) preferred.
Skills
Available to fulfill the department requirements of being on-call for after hours emergency procedures and be with in the required thirty-minute response time. Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the Standards of Nursing Practice at NSMC. Displays appropriate judgment and problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Has patient assessment knowledge and ability.

Pay
Hourly Wage Estimate: $37.26 - $55.91 / hour
