Cardiovascular Specialist (RN/RT) - Electrophysiology Lab

About the Role

The Cardiovascular Specialist will deliver exceptional and streamlined patient care during Electrophysiology Lab procedures by documenting, circulating, and scrubbing. You will work alongside a care team of electrophysiologists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and other specialists to provide state-of-the-art therapies for patients with simple to complex arrhythmias in the Electrophysiology Lab, which specializes in electrical disorders of the heart. Examples of procedures include catheter ablations, implantable defibrillators, pacemakers, cardioversion, MAZE procedure, teletrace transmitter, and the Watchman. The team is among the first in the region using a next-generation system for AFib care, improving safety, reducing risk, and shortening recovery times.

Responsibilities

• Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are always ready; recognize and respond to potential emergency situations as needed.
• Promote safety practices and standards, maintain knowledge of equipment operation, adhere to equipment safety guidelines, and report any malfunctions.
• Complete and maintain accurate departmental records and logs in a timely manner by entering patient data and charges into the electronic system while safeguarding patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and colleagues through effective communication and responsiveness; sensitively address conflicts and concerns as needed.
• Provide 24-hour emergency on-call coverage for the Cardiac Cath Lab, rotating responsibilities with other staff members. Respond to emergency calls within 25 minutes and facilitate activities between departments to ensure prompt patient care.
• Monitor and evaluate patient stability during procedures, administer medications and treatments under supervision, and assist with advanced procedures.
• Offer mentorship and support to co-workers and trainees, participate in continuing education and in-service opportunities, and perform/maintain assigned point-of-care testing and annual competencies.
• Provide age-appropriate care considering physical, mental, and developmental factors; regularly update knowledge on age-specific guidelines.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current license as a Registered Nurse in NC and two years of RN experience preferred, or
• Completion of an Allied Health Technology Program (Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, etc.) with registry or license as it pertains to the field of expertise and two years of experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Lab preferred, or
• Completion of a Cardiovascular Interventional Program.
• Two years of experience within registry/license scope preferred.
• CPR certification upon hire; ACLS certification within 90 days.
• Proficient in procedure room roles (Circulator, Recorder, Scrubbing).

Skills & Qualifications

• Competencies in ablation and device room set-up, simple ablation and device procedures, TEE-guided cardioversions, and Implantable Loop Recorders.
• Professional communication skills with diverse age groups.
• Analytical skills for scheduling, equipment, and instruction comprehension.
