The Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center was the first in the Piedmont region that offered a hybrid catheterization-surgery lab. Our Lab combines sophisticated imaging technology with surgical suite capabilities to offer advanced therapies for heart and vascular conditions, including:

  • Valve repair with coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
  • Percutaneous valve procedures
  • Endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR)
  • Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR)

The Cardiovascular Specialist will provide excellent and efficient patient care throughout cardiac catheterization procedures by performing various roles such as physiologic monitoring, circulating, scrubbing, and duties specific to licensure, certification, and/or registration. You will work alongside a care team, including cardiovascular surgeons and interventional cardiologists.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is a thriving, nationally renowned academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center with 885 beds, centrally located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, known as “The Triad.” Relocation assistance may be available for eligible candidates.

Requirements

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current license as a Registered Nurse in NC, or
  • Completion of an Allied Health Technology Program (Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, etc.) with registry or license as it pertains to field of expertise, or
  • Completion of a Cardiovascular Interventional Program

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience within registry/license scope preferred
  • CPR certification upon hire
  • Proficient in procedure room roles (Circulator, Recorder, Scrubbing)
  • Professional communication skills with diverse age groups
  • Analytical skills for scheduling, equipment, and instruction comprehension

Responsibilities

  • Emergency Preparedness: Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are always ready; recognize and respond to potential emergency situations as needed.
  • Ensure Safe & Therapeutic Environment: Promote safety practices and standards, maintain knowledge of equipment operation, adhere to equipment safety guidelines, and report any malfunctions.
  • Record Keeping: Complete and maintain accurate departmental records and logs in a timely manner by entering patient data and charges into the electronic system, and safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Communication: Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and colleagues through effective communication and responsiveness; sensitively address conflicts and concerns as needed.
  • On-Call: Provide coverage for 24-hour emergency call for the Cardiac Cath Lab. Rotate on-call responsibilities with other staff members, respond within 25 minutes to emergency calls, and facilitate activities between departments to ensure prompt patient care.
  • Patient Care: Monitor and evaluate patient stability during procedures, administer medications and treatments under supervision, and assist with advanced procedures.
  • Education & Consultation: Offer mentorship and support to co-workers and trainees, participate in continuing education and in-service opportunities, and perform/maintain assigned point-of-care testing and annual competencies.
  • Age-Specific Care: Provide age-appropriate care considering physical, mental, and developmental factors; regularly update knowledge on age-specific guidelines.
