About the Role

The Registered Nurse assists cardiologists in performing Transesophageal Echocardiograms and Direct Current Cardioversions, facilitates and executes Pharmacological Stress Echocardiograms with the Chest Pain Nursing staff, and acts as a patient advocate. This role involves patient procedural preparation, pre- and post-procedure assessments, IV line establishment, medication administration, and patient education.

Responsibilities

• Exhibit knowledge of patient procedural preparation and act as a patient advocate.
• Perform pre-procedure assessments and reassessments as needed post-procedure.
• Establish and maintain IV lines as determined by specialty.
• Administer medications and IV fluids correctly based on patient age and condition.
• Provide explanations and verbal reassurance to patients consistently.
• Formulate and evaluate patient teaching plans, including family in teaching as appropriate.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors, coworkers, and physicians.
• Consult with other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients and families.
• Meet documentation standards and complete daily work shifts.
• Interpret continuous EKG and cardiac monitoring, identifying dysrhythmias.
• Identify physical symptoms and changes, taking timely action.
• Maintain the procedure room, including patient preparation, positioning, draping, and recording vital signs.
• Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique and practice.
• Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
• Safely administer physician-ordered medications.

Requirements

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date).
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
• Master’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Associate Degree in Nursing.
• 1 year of experience required.
