About the Role
The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Nurse Practitioner – Specialty Care or Physician Assistant – Specialty Care to join our team. This role will function as a key clinical partner and physician extender, collaborating closely with cardiothoracic surgeons to deliver high-quality patient care across multiple care settings.
Position Overview
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide comprehensive care to cardiothoracic surgery patients throughout the continuum of care, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases. This position offers a dynamic practice environment spanning outpatient clinics, inpatient units, the intensive care unit (ICU), and the operating room, where the APP will serve as a first assist.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in outpatient, inpatient, ICU, and surgical settings.
- Participate as a first assist in the operating room.
- Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including histories and physical examinations.
- Manage perioperative care, including pre-operative optimization and post-operative recovery.
- Conduct inpatient and outpatient consultations.
- Prepare discharge summaries and coordinate care transitions.
- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, recovery, and ongoing care.
- Provide care for hospitalized patients across all phases: pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative.
- Participate in a night/weekend call schedule and holidays.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Shifts and hours will vary based on department needs.
Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing degree.
- Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days. Must be granted a “Document of Recognition” from the Missouri Board of Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (or eligible for licensure)
- Experience in cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, or a related specialty preferred.
Pay
Salary Range: $108,971.20 - $177,590.40 annually
