About the Role

Hartford HealthCare’s Department of Cardiac Surgery, a prestigious 15-star Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) program, seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join its award-winning team. Based at Hartford Hospital, one of the largest surgical centers in the Northeast, the program is celebrated for excellence in cardiac surgery, innovative care, and superior patient outcomes.

This role is open to Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners. The position is inpatient-based, located at 79 Jefferson Street, Hartford, CT (06102).

Responsibilities

  • Manage preoperative and postoperative care for cardiac surgery patients.
  • Perform bedside procedures including central venous and arterial line placement, intra-aortic balloon pump removal, and others.
  • Provide care for patients undergoing advanced procedures such as heart transplants, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), mechanical circulatory support, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and closely monitor progress.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes through teamwork and concise communication.
  • Support seamless transitions of care between the ICU, step-down, and floor settings.
  • Provide patient and family education, ensuring a clear understanding of the surgical process and recovery journey.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 3x13s (nights). Premium differentials offered.
  • Day/night/weekend/holiday rotation available, with permanent night positions offered.
  • No call schedule.

Requirements

  • Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (APRN).
  • Preferably 1+ years of relevant experience in Cardiac Surgery, critical care, or surgical settings (new graduates are welcome to apply).
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Connecticut.
