About the Role

Functions as an Advanced Practice Nurse collaboratively with a physician sponsor, providing leadership of the clinical care team and acting as a change agent for a specific patient population. This role incorporates the functions of clinical expert, role model, consultant, educator, practitioner, researcher, and nurse leader. Provides clinical expertise to individual patients, families, and/or groups by delivering direct and indirect patient care. Collaborates with the healthcare team to assess, design, implement, and evaluate population-based programs of care to enhance high-quality, cost-effective patient outcomes. Models behavior aligned with MLH’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Practice Expert: Provides an advanced level of direct and indirect care to individual patients, families, and/or groups in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
• Education/Clinical Staff Development: Provides leadership and collaborates with other health professionals and educational resources to establish staff education programs addressing the specific needs of patient populations.
• Evidence-Based Consultant & Researcher: Demonstrates collaborative leadership with researchers, other health professionals, divisions, and departments to generate knowledge and implement practice changes based on research findings and quality improvement processes.
• Clinical Leadership: Provides leadership in meeting system, organizational, division, and departmental goals. Demonstrates accountability for professional responsibilities and self-development.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing (Required)
• Master’s Degree in Nursing (Required)
• 3-5 years of general nursing or clinical practice at the RN level (Required)

Skills

Proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in a specialized field of nursing. Such proficiency is acquired through completion of a master’s degree or higher in a nursing specialty and is demonstrated through national specialty certification as a nurse practitioner.

Physical Demands

• Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
• Exposure to patient body fluids, hazardous or poisonous materials, and extreme temperatures.
• Ability to react quickly to emergency situations and handle or administer narcotics.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate orally.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance and push/pull up to 250 lbs.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and bend.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions, gripping, squeezing, and coordinated hand-foot movements.
• Good hand-eye coordination.
