Responsibilities

• Assess patient health status through physical exams, patient history, diagnostic tests and procedures, and review labs and other critical data.
• Diagnose acute and chronic conditions affecting all organ systems.
• Initiate orders for medications, laboratory, and other diagnostic testing and medical treatments on appropriate forms.
• Prescribe interventions and perform therapeutic measures to ensure the appropriate individualized plan of care is implemented.
• Apply knowledge of age-specific needs (pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients) related to plan of care interventions and patient responses to care.
• Attend medical rounds with surgeons and pharmacists.
• Coordinate treatment plans with other caregivers.
• Lead patient care rounds with nursing team, pharmacy, nutrition, case management, palliative care, and other ancillary services at least once daily to ensure a care plan is in place and progress is made toward care outcome goals, including reduction of length of stay.
• Lead efforts to reduce waste and promote efficient processes within the inpatient hospital environment, particularly cardiovascular care, including performance improvement projects such as reducing length of stay, complications (infections, stroke), and renal injury post-procedure/surgery.
• All midlevel providers must lead one performance improvement project per year relating to cardiovascular care.
• Write and/or dictate progress notes, procedure notes, history and physical examination, transfers/discharge summaries in accordance with medical policies.
• Evaluate processes and outcomes to enhance the delivery of excellent, cost-effective healthcare.
• Initiate treatment of emergency management and patient resuscitation.
• Utilize knowledge and skills in giving safe and effective patient care and teaching.
• Order and monitor tests and other diagnostic procedures.
• Participate in hospital/community functions.
• Maintain working knowledge of JC/CMS/AHCA and Core Measures.
• Work with Case Management to assure appropriate utilization of services and length of stay for cardiac patients.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Proficient in EMR systems.
• Ability to teach, give and receive feedback, and advise.

• Exhibits an optimistic and enthusiastic attitude toward change; shows flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity and varying company culture.
• Demonstrate knowledge of adult learning principles and promote Plan, Do, Study, Act concepts in the work environment.
• Complies with all organizational policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, rules, regulations, accreditation standards, and bylaws.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or its successor program, or
• Graduate of an accredited Masters or Doctorate Nurse Practitioner Program.

Certifications

• State of Florida ARNP or Physician Assistant Licensure.
• NCCPA or ARNP Certification through AANP or ANCC.
• BLS and ACLS Certifications.
• Continuing education required to maintain licensure.
