As a Cardiologist, you’ll play a key role on the clinical operations team, providing direct patient care and assessments primarily in the ambulatory health care center setting. You’ll diagnose and treat various cardiovascular ailments, develop care plans, provide health education, and ensure high-quality documentation. Responsibilities

• Provide excellent inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular care, including care coordination, echocardiogram reading, and population management of market members.
• Lead a cardiovascular care team that may include Care Promoters, Echocardiogram/X-ray Technicians, and mid-level providers (ARNP or PA).
• Assist the Medical Director, Cardiology in managing day-to-day clinical and business operations, building relationships with providers and stakeholders.
• Consult with the Medical Director to ensure compliance with clinical guidelines and participate in risk/quality management programs.
• Manage chronic cardiovascular diseases for a panel of at least 5,000 patients, including examinations, tests, and treatment plans.
• Assess patients’ ability to withstand cardiovascular surgeries and collaborate with surgeons or invasive cardiologists on care strategies.
• Run and interpret EKGs, chest X-rays, and echocardiograms; order relevant blood tests and ancillary services.
• Limit external cardiovascular care where high-quality internal care can be provided.
• Prescribe medication and treatment in accordance with patient condition, payer guidelines, and industry standards.
• Review PCP requests for external cardiology referrals and determine urgency for follow-up appointments.
• Oversee cardiology clinical operations for 2-5 centers in the market under the supervision of the Medical Director, Cardiology.
• Exercise final medical judgment for paneled patients’ healthcare decisions.
• Provide patient education on heart disease, wellness, prevention, and early detection, including supporting CHF clinics.
• Assist with training and hiring of dedicated cardiology Care Promoters and NPs/PAs.
• Coach and mentor PCP physicians and clinicians in cardiology management.
• Participate in cardiovascular team meetings, daily huddles, and focused clinical discussions.
• Support quality and performance initiatives, cost-reduction strategies, and market clinical strategies.
• Build relationships with internal and external physician stakeholders.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• MD or DO in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics, or similar specialty required.
• Board certification in Cardiology required; sub-specialty training and certification may also apply.
• Current, unrestricted, and active medical license in the state of employment.
• Current DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Cardiologist.
• Prior experience with interdisciplinary teams in quality improvement or healthcare leadership preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (required within the first 90 days of employment).

• Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in Cardiology.
• Superior clinical skills in managing seniors with complex medical needs across all care environments.
• Exceptional communication skills and ability to build relationships with external organizations.
• Strong ability to cultivate relationships with primary care physicians and care teams.
• Good analytical skills and ability to manage for results.
• Conflict management and resolution skills; experience in population risk or chronic disease management preferred.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with proper telephone etiquette.
• Professional and tactful demeanor.
• Comfortable with electronic medical records and proficient in keyboarding.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
• Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally, and nationwide up to 15% of the time.
• Spoken and written fluency in English.

Pay

The posted pay range for this position is $278,575 - $397,963 annually. Final compensation will depend on experience, education, geographic location, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for bonuses or commissions.
