Cardiac Step-Down Nursing Assistant
About the Unit
8NE & NW is a 68-bed cardiac step-down unit providing an intermediate level of care to patients with cardiac-related diagnoses such as coronary artery disease (CAD), congestive heart failure (CHF), myocardial infarction (MI), and heart arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation (A-fib) and ventricular tachycardia (V-Tach). The unit also cares for patients pre- and post-cardiac procedures, such as catheterization/angioplasty, stents, ablations, and placement of pacemakers and defibrillators. Nurses receive specialized training in arterial sheath removal, Tikosyn administration, and are ACLS certified. All patients are continuously monitored by telemetry.

Responsibilities
- Provides care to patients according to the plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Safely transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatches services, and documents services appropriately.
- Serves as an Observer for patients requiring constant in-person or remote video monitoring to maximize safety.
- Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to support efficient nursing unit operations.
- Documents care provided in the electronic medical record.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred.
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support certification required.
- Current CNA certification preferred.
