About the Role

The Cardiac Sonographer III is responsible for independently performing all echocardiograms, including those that are very complex, in the hospital-based and/or pediatric settings. This includes complex valve cases, complex congenital echoes, Cath/EP lab cases, biopsies, TAVRs, or pediatric echoes. In Pediatrics, the role involves independently performing comprehensive echocardiographic studies in patients with congenital and structurally abnormal hearts, including pediatric, post-operative, adult congenital, and fetal populations. This requires advanced knowledge of congenital anatomy, surgical repairs, and age-dependent physiology, directly supporting high-acuity diagnostic and clinical decision-making.

The sonographer precepts junior staff, students, and/or fellows, may be involved in accreditation applications and ongoing quality assurance projects, and steps in to help in the absence of a lead sonographer or manager. The role involves understanding the reasons for the patient's exam and preparing preliminary reports with accurate measures and appropriate statements while complying with patient privacy and safety guidelines.

For NH sites, a Medical Imaging License through the state's OPLC is required upon hire. This position requires patient care.

Responsibilities

• Perform all Cardiac Sonographer II responsibilities.
• Independently perform all cases, including complex congenital, pediatric, fetal, and structural echocardiography.
• Troubleshoot Epic/PACS issues.
• Precept junior staff and/or students, setting an example in work ethic, workflow, and technical expertise.
• Lead the team in the absence of lead sonographers and provide back-up support as needed.
• Collect data for the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
• Pick up extra shifts to help with lab needs.
• Guide administrative support staff on technical/scheduling questions to ensure optimal operation of the clinic and lab.
• Provide imaging support for Cath/EP lab procedures, including biopsies and TAVR cases.
• Deliver full assistance for advanced and 3D transesophageal echocardiography at designated community sites.
• Maintain responsibility for accreditation applications and ongoing quality assurance activities.
• Actively participate in teaching and mentoring fellows, support research initiatives through data collection, imaging analysis, abstract presentations, and manuscript preparation.
• Represent the organization in professional and industry settings.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (preferred). This role does not accept experience in lieu of a degree.
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required.
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• 3-5 years of sonographer experience preferred.
