About the role

The Electronic Specialist position is a part-time role with the City of Canton, Ohio. This position operates and maintains electronic instrumentation, plant operations computer-based equipment, and control devices for the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF).

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains electronic instrumentation, plant operations computer-based equipment, and control devices for the entire operation of the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF).
  • Supervises the activities of the Senior Instrumentation Specialist.
  • Trains and supervises employees in the use of the department’s plant operations computer-based equipment.
  • Supervises and trains employees.
  • Troubleshoots, plans, schedules, and assigns work.
  • Provides technical support for the department’s operations.
  • Covers with other City Departments and/or agencies for assigned duties.
  • Maintains, calibrates, and repairs electronic controllers, switches, etc.
  • Calibrates all metering and control systems.
  • Maintains, calibrates, and repairs the electronic equipment at the City’s lift stations.
  • Maintains daily maintenance work records.
  • Prepares and types a variety of technical reports.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or have a permanent residence card.
  • High school graduate or equivalent with a two-year electrical/electronic technical degree or comparable education.
  • Five years of experience with electronic and computer-based equipment or comparable experience in similar environment.
  • Valid State of Ohio Drivers’ License.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and theories of pneumatics, hydraulics, electricity and electronics.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering and construction maintenance principles for all types of wastewater systems.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to train and supervise other employees.
  • Ability to operate a computer terminal, including keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Ability to use a variety of electrical and mechanical tools.
  • Ability to diagnose trouble and to interpret complex engineering drawings and/or electronic schematics.
  • Ability to maintain, program and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLC’s).
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, lift, and walk, to perform investigative duties related to all aspects of WRF’s operation.

Skills

  • Programming and troubleshooting PLC’s.
  • Electrical and mechanical tool usage.
  • Complex engineering drawings and/or electronic schematics interpretation.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $30,000 - $45,000 annually.

Schedule

This is a part-time position with the City of Canton, working up to twenty-nine hours a week.
