About the role
The Electronic Specialist position is a part-time role with the City of Canton, Ohio. This position operates and maintains electronic instrumentation, plant operations computer-based equipment, and control devices for the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF).
Responsibilities
- Operates and maintains electronic instrumentation, plant operations computer-based equipment, and control devices for the entire operation of the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF).
- Supervises the activities of the Senior Instrumentation Specialist.
- Trains and supervises employees in the use of the department’s plant operations computer-based equipment.
- Supervises and trains employees.
- Troubleshoots, plans, schedules, and assigns work.
- Provides technical support for the department’s operations.
- Covers with other City Departments and/or agencies for assigned duties.
- Maintains, calibrates, and repairs electronic controllers, switches, etc.
- Calibrates all metering and control systems.
- Maintains, calibrates, and repairs the electronic equipment at the City’s lift stations.
- Maintains daily maintenance work records.
- Prepares and types a variety of technical reports.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or have a permanent residence card.
- High school graduate or equivalent with a two-year electrical/electronic technical degree or comparable education.
- Five years of experience with electronic and computer-based equipment or comparable experience in similar environment.
- Valid State of Ohio Drivers’ License.
Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and theories of pneumatics, hydraulics, electricity and electronics.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering and construction maintenance principles for all types of wastewater systems.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to train and supervise other employees.
- Ability to operate a computer terminal, including keyboarding skills.
- Ability to prepare reports.
- Ability to maintain records.
- Ability to use a variety of electrical and mechanical tools.
- Ability to diagnose trouble and to interpret complex engineering drawings and/or electronic schematics.
- Ability to maintain, program and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLC’s).
- Ability to climb, bend, stoop, lift, and walk, to perform investigative duties related to all aspects of WRF’s operation.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $30,000 - $45,000 annually.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with the City of Canton, working up to twenty-nine hours a week.
