Cancer Registrar Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) (Partial Remote)
Position Summary
The Cancer Registrar Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) manages and analyzes clinical cancer information for various purposes including processing, maintaining, compiling, and reporting health information.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, interpret, and document comprehensive cancer-related data from patient records, including diagnosis, staging, treatment, and follow-up information.
- Maintain accurate and timely data entry into cancer registry databases using appropriate software.
- Ensure compliance with national and state reporting requirements, submit timely data to central cancer registries.
- Participate in data quality reviews, audits, and cancer program activities, ensuring the integrity of the cancer registry data.
- Coordinate long-term follow-up of patients for survival analysis and ongoing reporting.
- Assist in organizing tumor board conferences; ensure accurate case presentations and follow-up on outcomes.
- Stay up to date with changes in coding standards, staging guidelines (SEER), and registry operations; assist in training new registry staff as needed.
Experience
At least two years’ experience as a Cancer Registrar/ODS is preferred. Previous experience in a health-related field, preferably medical records, medical office, or nursing is also preferred.
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent with additional course in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is preferred.
Licensure/Certifications
Must be an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) through the National Cancer Registrar’s Association (NCRA) or in process of becoming eligible to take ODS-C exam. Must maintain annual CEUs as required by NCRA and Montage Health.
Work Hours
Full Time, day shift Mon-Fri Hybrid (partial remote) - Required to work onsite 2-days per week.
