Cancer Center Nurse Per Diem RN (NURSE PD)

About the Role

The Clinical Nurse (CN) identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations. This position provides total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care, including assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care. The role involves delivering direct patient care, ensuring patient satisfaction, training and delegating duties, and adhering to University policies and federal, state, and local regulations.

Autonomous nursing care is expected, requiring the nurse to assess and provide nursing actions based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. Independent judgment is exercised within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. The nurse provides direct care to a diversified patient population, applies clinical judgment, participates in patient and staff education, and demonstrates leadership and accountability for practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Responsibilities

• Perform nursing process and practice (70%): Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, and evaluate a comprehensive nursing plan of care; deliver direct patient care.
• Quality and evidence-based practice (15%): Ensure compliance with best practices and institutional policies.
• Leadership (5%): Act as a resource to other members of the nursing team and promote compliance with policies.
• Professional development (5%): Engage in ongoing education and training.
• Research (5%): Participate in research activities as applicable.
• Provide patient education, telephone triage, and symptom management.
• Conduct chart reviews and prepare for appointments.
• Support clinical triaging of new patient referrals and telephone symptom management for the adult population at the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Requirements

• At least two (2) years of recent clinical RN inpatient experience in an inpatient designated oncology unit or at least two (2) years of recent clinical RN outpatient oncology experience.
• Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction.
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR certification.
• Within three (3) years of hire, and every three (3) years thereafter, obtain Oncology Certification or 18 continued education units (CEUs) that are oncology-specific in a three-year accreditation cycle to meet the Commission on Cancer 4.2 Standard on nursing education.
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Preferred Qualifications

• OCN certification or RN-BC certification.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Case manager and telephone triage experience.
• Surgical and ambulatory care experience.
• Patient education experience.

Department Overview

The Cancer Center Clinics at UC Davis Health Comprehensive Cancer Center provide care to adult patients for various conditions, including benign and malignant hematologic and solid tumor diagnoses across multiple subspecialties. Subspecialties include Hematology and Medical Oncology, Gynecology Oncology, Pulmonary Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Thoracic Oncology, Urology, and Clinical Trials. Multidisciplinary teams collaborate to formulate comprehensive care plans throughout the patient’s treatment journey, from diagnosis through survivorship.

Pay

$99.53 - $114.48 per hour.

Schedule

• Variable, 10-hour shifts.
• 20% time (approximately 8 hours per week).
• This position is 100% on-site.
