About the Role

Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) is a global function responsible for making strategic credit and fraud risk decisions that uphold operational excellence, drive growth, and accelerate innovation across American Express. CFR combines technology and infrastructure with advanced computing techniques to enhance risk decision-making and provide real-time customer communications and fraud servicing. This team manages risks throughout the customer lifecycle, across consumer and commercial businesses, and all global products.

The role spans two key areas:

• Credit Risk Strategy: Monitors credit portfolios and optimizes profit-based risk management decisions at all stages of the customer credit lifecycle.
• Fraud Risk Strategy: Analyzes and improves controls to mitigate fraud vulnerabilities across product design, account acquisition, card issuance, servicing, and financial transactions.

The summer internship role will involve responsibilities tailored to the specific team, with broad opportunities to contribute in the following ways:

Responsibilities

• Partner with Digital Product and Business Unit teams to provide insights that inform product development, marketing investments, and data-driven analytical solutions to evaluate and drive business performance.
• Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement strategies based on statistical, financial, and economic analysis.
• Provide analytical support to enable billing, revenue growth, profitability, and enhanced customer experience through diverse projects.
• Integrate new data sources and capabilities to drive key business decisions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program.
• Expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Passion for improving end-to-end customer experience, innovation, and customer-first thinking.
• Strong interest in the digital space and ability to collaborate with technology and product partners.
• Entrepreneurial problem solver with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining a big-picture perspective.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to research, compile, and analyze complex issues.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in high-pressure situations while managing multiple assignments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
• Willingness to learn and master new systems.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Knowledge of SQL, SAS, Java, Hive, Yellow Brick, or Python is a plus.
