9-month position, 7 hours per day. Primary work location: Centennial High School, Las Vegas.

About the Role

This position provides instructional and classroom support under the direction of a licensed teacher. The para-professional assists in implementing instructional programs, working with individual students or small groups, and performing clerical duties to support classroom activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher in implementing instructional programs and lesson plans.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction to students as directed by the teacher.
  • Support students with special needs in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Assist with classroom management, including supervising students during activities, transitions, and breaks.
  • Perform clerical duties such as preparing materials, grading assignments, and maintaining records.
  • Operate and assist students in the use of instructional technology and equipment.
  • Monitor and report student progress to the teacher.
  • Assist with personal care tasks for students with disabilities, as needed (e.g., feeding, toileting, mobility).
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of 48 college credits OR passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (or equivalent local assessment).
  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new technologies.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks as required (e.g., assisting with mobility, positioning).
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and provide proof of negative tuberculosis (TB) test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) or proficiency in another language commonly spoken by students.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities or in special education settings.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR.
