About the role

This full-time position is located in the Security Department at Colorado Community College System - Lowry Campus. Position will work with a broad range of people campus wide to ensure situations are appropriately addressed and expectations for safety are achieved.

Responsibilities

• Conduct security patrols of campus and all College buildings and facilities on foot or by other means (i.e. patrol car, bicycle, etc.) and provide stationary security post duties as assigned.
• Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone and/or supervisory and management personnel of the Security Department.
• Insure that security supervisory and management personnel are notified in a proper and timely manner of breaches of security occurring on College properties or of information received that may create a security risk for College properties such as trespassers and contact local police as appropriate.
• Perform safety escorts to and from vehicles and College facilities upon request for members of the campus community.
• Check areas for unauthorized personnel or movement of students.
• Prevent vandalism and theft of school property as well as disruptions caused by physical or verbal conflict between students when observed.
• Physically inspect buildings and check doors, windows, entries and exits for safety.
• Responds to alarms and communicate and assist fire and police departments.
• Provide customer service by enthusiastically providing information and services.
• Investigate and report on security matters on campus.
• Write complete, accurate and timely reports to record campus incidents and document investigations and maintains logs relating to activity on campus.
• Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence in incidents that may be criminal in nature.
• Enforce all College rules and regulations on College properties owned or leased as specified in Standard Operating Procedures.
• Challenge trespassers, loiterers, errant vehicle operators and all others who create a safety and security risk to students and staff and threaten the overall security and integrity of the physical assets and property of the College including violations of the student code of conduct.
• Temporarily detain and restrain individuals when there is an incident that may be criminal in nature and present an immediate threat to the safety or security of students or staff by means of baton techniques, locks, grips or holds, or restraining devices until law enforcement arrives.
• Respond to and assist in resolving conflicts and confrontations on campus.
• Aid in crowd control as needed.
• Issue campus parking tickets.
• Issue trespass notifications to those found in restricted areas as well as those who present a significant safety and security risk to the college.
• Assist in evacuating faculty, staff, and students during emergencies.
• Must respond to emergencies and provide first aid/CPR/AED as needed.
• Serve as initial responder when dealing with emergency situations such as tornados, floods, bomb threats, lock downs, etc., following proper procedures for lock down, lock out, evacuate, and shelter.
• Issue Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications during emergencies as appropriate.
• Respond and manage all types of emergencies until the arrival of outside agencies.
• Maintain required certifications in emergency response areas as required by the College and federal or state law or regulation.
• Exercise proper care and maintenance of all College owned or leased equipment including vehicles assigned to or utilized for duty.
• Maintain a high level of proficiency in the proper use of authorized protection tools (batons, hand cuffs, pepper spray, radio, etc.).
• Maintain in-depth knowledge and high level proficiency with campus safety and security systems.
• Must successfully complete and maintain certification.
• Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence in incidents that may be criminal in nature.
• Reside in the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application.

Requirements

Two (2) years of work experience in security, campus safety or law enforcement as the primary function of the job. Or College, university or non-correspondence business school course work from an accredited institution in Law Enforcement or similar field may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis. A copy of your transcript verifying the required credits must be received by application deadline in order to be considered. Redact your age-related information on your transcript. Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license to operate campus vehicles. Must be able obtain the First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 60 days of hire if not already certified. Must submit to and successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment background check, physical, agility and drug test. Must be 21 years of age. Successful candidate must be trained and able to use special equipment such as a baton, pepper spray, handcuffs, and ASIST training within six months of appointment and provide documentation. If not certified within six months after appointment, position will be downgraded to a Technician I . An essential function of this position requires the individual to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and depth perception. You must be able to perform this level of physical exertion and essential functions in order to be considered for this position. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to the job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position.
