About the role
This full-time security position is based at the CCCS Lowry Campus. The role involves collaborating with campus stakeholders to maintain safety, respond to incidents, and enforce college policies and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct security patrols of campus buildings and facilities on foot, by vehicle, bicycle, or other means, and perform stationary security post duties as assigned.
- Respond to calls for service via radio, telephone, or direction from security supervisory and management personnel.
- Notify security supervisors and management promptly of security breaches or risks, such as trespassers, and contact local police as needed.
- Provide safety escorts to and from vehicles and campus facilities upon request.
- Monitor areas for unauthorized personnel or student movement; prevent vandalism, theft, and physical or verbal conflicts.
- Inspect buildings, doors, windows, entries, and exits for safety; respond to alarms and assist fire and police departments.
- Deliver customer service by providing information and assistance to the campus community.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents on campus, conduct initial investigations, and determine appropriate disposition.
- Investigate security matters, document incidents, and maintain logs using computer-aided reporting systems.
- Prepare and file written reports on campus activities and security-related incidents, ensuring compliance with Clery reporting requirements.
- Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence in criminal incidents.
- Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic on campus property; enforce college rules and regulations as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures.
- Challenge trespassers, loiterers, and individuals posing safety risks; address violations of the student code of conduct.
- Temporarily detain or restrain individuals in criminal incidents posing immediate threats to safety, using authorized techniques or devices until law enforcement arrives.
- Assist in resolving conflicts and confrontations; provide crowd control as needed.
- Issue campus parking tickets and trespass notifications for restricted areas or safety risks.
- Assist in evacuating faculty, staff, and students during emergencies; provide first aid, CPR, and AED as needed.
- Serve as initial responder for emergencies such as tornados, floods, bomb threats, or lockdowns, following proper procedures.
- Issue Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications during emergencies as appropriate.
- Manage emergencies until the arrival of outside agencies; maintain required certifications in emergency response.
- Maintain and care for college-owned or leased equipment, including vehicles and authorized protection tools (batons, handcuffs, pepper spray, radios).
- Achieve and maintain proficiency in campus safety and security systems; complete required certifications.
- As a Campus Security Authority, report crimes posing an ongoing threat to the community immediately to the Police Department.
Requirements
- Two years of work experience in security, campus safety, or law enforcement as the primary job function. Part-time experience will be prorated.
- College or university coursework in Law Enforcement or a related field may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis (transcript required).
- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license to operate campus vehicles.
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 60 days of hire if not already certified.
- Must successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check, physical, agility, and drug test.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must complete training and certification in the use of batons, pepper spray, handcuffs, and ASIST within six months of appointment.
- Felony convictions, crimes of moral turpitude, or job-related misdemeanors may disqualify candidates.
Physical demands
- Exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. constantly to move objects.
- Constant or frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and depth perception.
- Wear personal protective equipment and standardized uniforms as required.
Schedule
Standard work schedule: Wednesday through Saturday, 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Alternate shifts and holidays may be required as needed.
Pay
- Regular rate applies for work hours between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (no shift differential).
- Second shift differential (7.5%) applies when half or more of scheduled hours fall between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
- Third shift differential (14%) applies when half or more of scheduled hours fall between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- Weekend differential (20%) applies when more than half of scheduled shift hours fall on a weekend (4:00 p.m. Friday through 6:00 a.m. Monday).
