Campus Safety Responder

About the role

The Campus Safety Responder demonstrates a commitment to supporting the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds present in our community. Under general supervision, the Campus Safety Responder guards and protects University property with a high intrinsic or monetary value, or a high hazard potential such as open art displays or highly flammable materials; maintains order among crowds at public events, but do not carry firearms; control entry to restricted areas; check the identity of persons seeking entry; inspect areas for security, fire, and accident hazards, and take action as required; watch for rule infractions and irregularities in University facilities; may answer questions and direct visitors; maintain public relations with all persons visiting assigned area; and patrol parking lots to prevent crime.

Responsibilities

• Guards and protects University property with a high intrinsic or monetary value, or a high hazard potential such as open art displays or highly flammable materials.
• Maintain order among crowds at public events.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience with speaking and presenting information to small and large diverse groups.
• Knowledge of and experience enforcing rules and regulations, security policies and procedures, applicable state and local laws, while ensuring the rights of community members.
• Experience working in a higher education setting.
• Experience patrolling assigned areas for safety.
• Demonstrated ability to serve and work well with diverse community members, peers and superiors.
• Strong ability to maintain a professional and impartial stance in all situations (especially emergencies).
• Strong verbal and written skills and ability to effectively communicate.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and abilities to relay rules, regulations, policies and directives.
• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, editing, and proofreading methods.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and independently organize available work time to meet assigned responsibilities.
• Ability to spend long hours on foot patrol of buildings, grounds, etc.
• Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills.

Pay

The full salary range for the Campus Safety Responder is $25.40 - $33.53 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $29.77 per hour.
