Job Responsibilities
- Prevention and suppression of crime
- Protection of life and property
- Development, implementation, and supervision of assigned areas of public safety specialties
- Preservation of the peace
- Enforcement of state, local, and federal laws and College regulations
- Apprehension, investigation, and prosecution of offenders
Education and Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Current M.C.O.L.E.S. certification or the ability to be certified prior to hire
- Two years of law enforcement experience as a certified sworn police officer preferred
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Weight proportional to height
- Vision and hearing that satisfies the hiring requirements of preemployment medical testing as set forth by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES)
- Not been convicted of a violation of criminal law, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- No more than three moving violations in the 24 months previous to application
- Successfully complete all parts of the following qualifying examinations: physical strength and agility test, written and oral exam, medical examination, background investigation
- Familiarity with the basic purposes and philosophy of a college public safety operation
- A general knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relating to college public safety operations
- Mature, level-headed, and calm in difficult situations
Supervision
- Reports to Chief of College Police and takes direction from Command Officers
- Directs operations at scene of incidents
- Might direct part-time department personnel
